Tomb Blaster

Step into the darkness and prepare for a mission—Tomb Blaster is one of Chessington World of Adventures’ most iconic indoor adventures. Located in Forbidden Kingdom, this interactive dark ride challenges you to take on the Curse of the Priest. Armed with a laser blaster, you’ll journey deep into an ancient Egyptian tomb, blasting targets as you compete for the highest score.

However, Tomb Blaster’s story stretches far beyond its current form. The ride first opened in 1987 as The Fifth Dimension, debuting alongside the original World of Adventures. Back then, it offered a completely different experience, focused on a futuristic journey rather than ancient curses. Yet, as the park evolved, so did the attraction.

In 1994, the ride was dramatically transformed into Terror Tomb to support the launch of Forbidden Kingdom. This version introduced guests to Abdab, a corrupt tour guide leading a treasure hunt deep into a forbidden tomb. However, things quickly spiralled out of control. Abdab fell victim to a powerful curse, and riders witnessed his chaotic downfall through a mix of animatronics, humour, and eerie effects.

Then, in 2002, the attraction changed once again. As Chessington shifted towards a more family-friendly experience, Terror Tomb closed, and Tomb Blaster emerged in its place. The ride system remained, but the story was reworked. Laser blasters and interactive targets were added, transforming the experience into a competitive adventure.

Despite these changes, traces of the past still linger throughout the ride. Some original sets and scenes remain, giving Tomb Blaster a unique layered history. Meanwhile, the gameplay keeps guests coming back, eager to beat their high score.

Overall, Tomb Blaster blends storytelling, nostalgia, and interactivity into one experience. Whether you’re riding for the first time or returning for another round, it’s a must-do attraction—and a true Forbidden Kingdom classic.
