Project Round Table Planning Begins

20th November 2024

Chessington World of Adventures has officially submitted the planning application for its next major development. Internally known as Project Round Table, and publicly referred to as Project Refresh & Renew, the project aims to reinvigorate the ageing Wild Asia area with a bold, immersive transformation.

A New Immersive Land

The submitted plans outline a large-scale themed land featuring two new attractions and one relocated ride. The much-loved Kobra looks set to shift into a new position within the land, forming part of the refreshed experience. With the other, existing rides to be placed into storage or scrapped entirely.

Meanwhile, the new additions include a mostly-indoor roller coaster and an indoor flat ride, alongside a themed playscape designed to enhance family adventure. Together, these features promise a dynamic mix of thrills, storytelling, and interactive play.

A Next-Generation Coaster

According to the plans, the indoor coaster appears to be supplied by Intamin and likely represents one of their Multi-Dimension models. These coasters allow for unique elements, special track transitions, and either free-spinning or controlled-spinning ride vehicles.

Although the full layout remains hidden within enclosed building plans, several details offer clues. The compact station footprint and the airgate arrangement suggest a three-row, single-car configuration, closely resembling Uncharted at PortAventura World. Consequently, guests can anticipate a highly immersive, effects-heavy experience designed to push creative boundaries.

A New Indoor Family Ride

Furthermore, the plans show a second indoor attraction believed to be a Tea Cup-style ride. However, this is no ordinary spinner. The enclosed setting creates opportunities for enhanced lighting, themed sound, and special effects, all combining to deliver an elevated and atmospheric family experience.

Supporting Facilities and Features

Beyond the headline attractions, the development includes an impressive set of supporting facilities. A large retail unit, an expansive Digital Dining Experience, and essential amenities such as toilets and Sensory Spaces all form part of the proposal. These features aim to improve guest comfort while strengthening the overall cohesion of the land.

Looking Toward 2027

With planning now underway, Chessington appears to be targeting a 2027 opening for Project Round Table. Although much work lies ahead, the plans demonstrate the resort’s ambition to reinvent a key area of the park and deliver a landmark new themed land for guests of all ages.
